Interview with Silva Kegulian : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Silva Kegulian : love of Natural elements .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Silva Kegulian : i wanted to keep the real look and feel of the actual lemon slice and show that any item can be turned into a nice piece of Jewelry. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Silva Kegulian : Manucafturing numbered pieces for distribution purpuses espacially that we have the poeple of Japan intrested in it already ! .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Silva Kegulian : it took us 2 week to achieve this first sample. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Silva Kegulian : it was pure inspiration and a challenge to both me and my husband , I remember at dinner we were dicussing work and i suddenly asked him :What if you mold a real lemon slice for me ? He laughed and said : are you questionning my abilites ? and the project took off based on that challenge ,once the slice was done i had to find the right seeds to make the chain . .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Silva Kegulian : The designs is made in our facility in Downtown Los Angeles, we will produce limited quantities to sell. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Silva Kegulian : It began with an Idea and we pursued it to see if it'll work . .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Silva Kegulian : Not really, just me and my Husband .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Silva Kegulian : anyone who likes innovative Jewelry .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Silva Kegulian : Well first of all this necklace is a replica of a real one, plus the fact that it is made from reclaimed metals makes it even more organic, this piece shows that it could be done and you can accessorize by having nature and envirenoment in mind. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Silva Kegulian : the name is simple and says it all . Lemon slice .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Silva Kegulian : we used mainly Jewelry tools , the process is lost wax casting that involves law frequency centrufical casting machine, deburring wheels, soldering tequniques and final antiquing process. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Silva Kegulian : two things, the ability to obtain a rubber mold from a fresh lemon slice . Second casting with recycled metals. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Silva Kegulian : Team work between me and my Husband. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Silva Kegulian : Low frequency casting machine which comes from Famous Italy ! .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Silva Kegulian : this done basiclly on Experience, long years of making Jewelry gives you the skills to achieve and reach new levels. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Silva Kegulian : the main challenge was first to able to mold the slice without damaging the surface, to obtain its realistic look and for it to have an appeal as a wearable piece of Jewelry .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Silva Kegulian : Pure Luck ! my friend is a member and i thought it would interesting to enter my piece and see what happens! i'm glad i Did ! .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Silva Kegulian : You never stop learning , every single detail counts. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?. Silva Kegulian : I just want to thank you for this opportunity ! We need to spread the word that Jewelry can be even better when made from recycled metals ! .
